At Las Vegas Apartments, we understand the importance of education in today's
society. Parents want nothing more than to place their children in schools where
they know their children will be in good hands. Especially when moving to a new
area, parents want to make sure that there are appropriate schools nearby.
Researching specific needs and wants for their children's education is the first
step that any moving parent should take. A simple phone call to the school's
district will answer most of your questions, but not all. Some cases may require
a visit to a counselor who is more than willing to help a parent find the right
education and school for their kids. The internet is also a very useful source
for information regarding ANYTHING related to your child's education. Here is a
link to the Clark County public schools website and the Nevada Department of
Education website.

State Improvement Plan
The State Board of Education adopted the State Improvement Plan on December 4th,
2004, in accordance with state legislation. The State Improvement Plan includes
an action plan for accomplishing the priority goals identified through a
comprehensive needs assessment. The State Improvement Plan provides statewide
direction and leadership in state, regional, and district improvement efforts.
Priority Goals:
Based on the priority needs identified through the comprehensive needs
assessment, five priority goals were identified:
- Engage the full community in a cohesive and collaborative statewide
improvement planning process that drives all levels (school, district, and
state) and that supports improved student performance by maintaining a focus
on teaching, student learning, and parental involvement.
- Use consistent and relevant data at all levels (school, district, and
state) to drive the improvement planning process and to evaluate the
effectiveness of planned programs and activities in order to provide feedback
for plan revisions.
- Identify research-based strategies in order to set performance
expectations to improve instruction in core academic subjects, to reduce
achievement gaps, and to improve the performance of all students.
- Implement a statewide approach to research-based professional development
and pre-service educator preparation primarily focused on data-driven needs as
identified in school, district, and state improvement plans.
|
|
- Implement a statewide initiative to focus on secondary education,
including strategies to improve academic achievement, increase graduation
rates, decrease dropout rates, improve distribution of information to the
public, and increase post-secondary program enrollment and success rates.
Here are some tips offered by the Clark County
Public School website on helping your child succeed.
Making Homework Less of a Hassle
Resistance to homework, while experienced in many households, is usually
unique to each family.
Try these strategies:...
Busy Parents Can Help Their Children
No matter how busy parents are, there are things they can do to help their
children. Parents of first- and second-graders in the "School Transition
Study," conducted by the Harvard Family Research Project, have discovered
creative ways to stay involved in their children's learning and development.
Researchers conducting the survey learned important and useful tips to share
with busy parents...
Opportunities for Parent Involvement
Research shows that students with parents who are involved in their
children's education achieve more. Exactly what is "parent involvement?"
Some parents have the time available to volunteer in a classroom or serve on
committees; others have more limited opportunities. Being involved in your
children's education at home is actually the best place to begin.
